Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships in India are offered through the Indian Council for Cultural relations, based in New Delhi. The Council also has offices in Durban and Johannesburg (South Africa), Georgetown (Guyana), Port Louis (Mauritius), Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) and London (UK).

    This scholarship was instituted to implement the policy of the Commonwealth countries to contribute together in providing high level education and training by sharing their resources and available facilities. 70 scholarships are awarded annually.

    The scholarship is meant for nationals of the Commonwealth countries. These awards are mainly for postgraduate studies and a few are for undergraduate studies in the courses for which adequate facilities are not available in the applicant's country. Short duration courses are also available under this scheme for students desiring to collect relevant material for conducting their research back home.
