First alumni directory launched

Due to collaborations between CSFP communities in the UK, the first-ever Directory of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows (1960-2002) has been published.

The directory was launched at a special reception on 26 October, hosted by the University of Edinburgh. Speakers included Jake Oates, Minister for Education in Canada's North West Territories, Professor Timothy M M O'Shea, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, and Professor Trudy Harpham, Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom.

Copies of the directory, which contain the names of almost 20,000 award holders from regions of the Commonwealth, and career profiles of over 1,800, are available at a cost of £20 each (postage included) from the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom, at alumni@cscuk.ac.uk. The directory can also be accessed electronically by visiting http://www.csfp-online.org/alumni/directory.html.

Malta announces new scholarship

Recent growth in the number of countries hosting awards under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan was marked when Malta announced its intent to offer its first-ever award. The announcement was made on 27 October, the first day of the 15th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (15CCEM), held in Edinburgh.

The first award will be granted in 2004/05, and every two hence. Malta became the 15th country to offer awards, a figure that has doubled since the previous ministers meeting, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, in 2000.
